Use the Change Impact & Mitigation Register to capture change impacts, score adoption risk, assign mitigation actions, track owners and due dates, and generate AI-assisted mitigation strategies for ERP implementation, CRM implementation, AI implementation, software rollout, operating model, and process-change programs.
What the tool does
This change management tool turns a change impact assessment into a practical change mitigation plan. It helps teams move from scattered notes to a scored register with owners, due dates, and clear mitigation actions.
Capture organisational changes
List process, system, role, policy, data, reporting, and ways-of-working changes by workstream and organisation unit.
Score impact and adoption risk
Score user reach, business severity, process or role change, capability gap, and red flags to identify the most important impacts.
Track mitigation actions
Assign action owners, due dates, status, notes, training needs, communication tasks, and hypercare follow-up.
Generate AI-assisted strategies
Create Quick or Deep mitigation strategy outputs based on actual register rows and change IDs.
Export and share
Export Excel, JSON, or Print/PDF outputs for governance, workshops, and project records.
Improve transformation readiness
Use High and Medium impacts to focus sponsor reviews, learning, communications, and readiness activities.
Two ways to work
Online workflow
Add or edit changes directly in the browser for quick updates, review sessions, and live collaboration preparation.
Offline workflow
Download the Excel template, fill it offline, then upload it into the tool when you are ready to consolidate.
Same end result
Both workflows create a scored change impact register that powers dashboards, filters, exports, and AI mitigation strategy generation.
How to add a change
Describe the change
Add workstream, organisation or unit, change description, source, change owner, and affected audience.
Score the impact
Enter user reach, business severity, process or role change, capability gap, and any red flag.
Assign mitigation
Add action owner, due date, status, notes, training needs, communication needs, sponsor review, and hypercare actions.
Review and maintain
Use Low, Medium, High, or TBA bands to focus attention and resolve missing scoring data.
How scoring works
Scores make adoption risk visible. Missing key values produce TBA, so teams know where more discovery is needed.
| Scoring input | What it measures | Planning signal |
|---|---|---|
| User reach | How many people or groups are affected by the change. | Broad reach increases communication, training, and support needs. |
| Business severity | Operational, compliance, customer, or benefits importance. | Critical severity requires stronger governance and mitigation. |
| Process/role change | Depth of process, role, handoff, or decision-right changes. | Deep role change needs learning, manager enablement, and reinforcement. |
| Capability gap | Distance between current skills/readiness and the future state. | Large gaps need training, job aids, coaching, and hypercare. |
| Red flag modifier | Known resistance, timing pressure, dependency risk, or poor readiness. | Critical severity plus a red flag promotes the impact to High. |
From register to mitigation plan
The register is not just documentation. Each meaningful impact should become an owned mitigation action with a due date, status, and review rhythm. Use it to coordinate training, learning material, communication, sponsor review, manager briefings, readiness checks, and hypercare.
Excel template workflow
Download the template
Use the gated template button on this page and save the .xlsx file locally.
Edit the Register sheet
Keep headers unchanged, use dropdowns, and fill the required impact and mitigation fields.
Import into the tool
Upload the workbook, then choose replace, overwrite, renumber, or skip existing rows as appropriate.
Verify import
Check row count, scores, owners, due dates, statuses, and any TBA rows after import.
AI mitigation strategy
Quick mode
Use Quick mode for a concise synthesis, top risks, priority mitigation actions, and immediate next steps.
Deep mode
Use Deep mode for a fuller mitigation strategy with themes, owners, sequencing, communications, training, and governance recommendations.
Confidentiality
Avoid unnecessary personal data. Use stakeholder groups and role names rather than individual personal details.
Export, backup, and share
Export Excel
Use Excel for business review, offline analysis, and sharing with teams that prefer spreadsheets.
Export JSON
Use JSON for full-fidelity backup because it preserves the richest tool data for future recovery.
Print / PDF
Create a clean snapshot for steering packs, readiness reviews, or audit records.
FAQ and troubleshooting
My data disappeared.
Working data is stored in your browser. Export JSON regularly before clearing browser data, changing devices, or resetting the tool.
Import says invalid values.
Check that the Register sheet headers are unchanged and that dropdown fields use the expected values.
The AI panel shows Mock mode.
Mock mode means the live LLM key is not configured. The tool can still show a structured heuristic strategy.
Backend not reachable.
Refresh after a short wait. If the issue persists, the backend service may need attention from the project owner.
The score looks wrong.
Check user reach, severity, process or role change, capability gap, red flag, and missing values.
Excel file will not import.
Confirm the file is .xlsx, the Register sheet is present, headers are unchanged, and required values use the template dropdowns.
How do I share my register with a colleague?
Export Excel for review or JSON for full-fidelity backup. Use Print/PDF for a readable snapshot.
Ready to turn impacts into action?
Start with the online tool or request the Excel template for offline preparation, then use the register to focus change effort where adoption risk is highest.
